Lorenzo Feliciati. Koi
Koi is the sixth album released by Italian bass guitarist, composer, arranger and producer Lorenzo Feliciati.
The album was inspired by Chinese folklore. In Oriental cultures, the koi fish — or carp — holds a special place. Legend has it that the gods, amazed at the perseverance with which the koi battered their way through the waterfalls of the River Huang He despite wicked demons, turned the fish into golden dragons.
The Japanese believe that the koi boost the psychic powers of their observers.
The album consists of 12 tracks, seven of which are compositions up to six minutes long; the other five are short interludes, calm and contemplative.
Lorenzo's fellow partners in the project are Italian pianist Alessandro Gwis and British drummer Steve Jansen, the founder of the once rather popular rock band, Japan. The track, Noir Alley Verdigris, features the lesser-known American drummer Pat Mastelotto from King Crimson, instead of Steve.
An eclectic mix of jazz, prog rock, ambient and avant-garde, Koi is a major, interesting endeavor by the Italian bassist, showcasing him as a wonderful instrumentalist and inventive composer.
