Pyotr Vostokov

Big Jazz Band led by Pyotr Vostokov

— Trumpeter Pyotr Vostokov was born in Moscow and graduated from the Gnessin Music Academy. He is the winner of the Do#Dj-2007 International Jazz Festival (Donetsk, Ukraine) and the 7th All-Russian Jazz Music Contest New Generation (2010).

He participated in the US-Russian Open World educational program and performed at the Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival in the United States in 2006. Mr. Vostokov also worked together with leading Russian jazz bands, such as Anatoly Kroll's Academik Band, Igor Butman's big band, Oleg Lundstrem State Jazz Music Chamber Orchestra, and Alexei Kozlov's Arsenal, as well as bands led by Viktor Yeponeshnikov, Ivan Farmakovsky and Vagif Sadykhov.

In 2010, jazz singer Daria Antonova and Pyotr Vostokov created the Big Jazz Band, which in October 2010 made its debut at the Central House of Journalists. In 2011, they received the Grand Prix at the Manor Jazz International Contest of Young Performers and returned home the winners of Gnessin Jazz, the first International Jazz Festival of Young Performers. In 2012, the band took part in three of the largest jazz festivals in Russia — All Colors of the Moscow Jazz, Jazz in the Hermitage Garden and Russian Stars of the World Jazz.

The repertoire of the orchestra includes traditional jazz of the 1920s-1960s. The band recreates the authentic sounds of music of the time using original scores and old instruments. The band performs unique programs dedicated to jazz band giants, such as Duke Ellington, Jimmie Lunceford, Dizzy Gillespie, Claude Thornhill and others.

The band directed by Mr. Vostokov includes young and talented musicians — current and former students of leading music schools, such as the Gnessin Music Academy or the Tchaikovsky Conservatory, soloists of Moscow jazz big bands, and winners of numerous jazz contests and festivals.
